Furthermore, Hart "almost collided with a gas tanker truck" during the dangerous trip down the 101 Freeway, according to TMZ. Police booked the comedian into jail and held in on a $5,000 bond.

Meanwhile, Hart has come clean with his fans about the ordeal via Twitter, and even offered a mea culpa on Sunday.

"When the cop asked me to take the sobriety test I said 'WHY waste our time… I'm a drunk man,'" Hart recounted.

"Drinking & Driving is not a game or a laughing matter," the comedian continued. "People have lost lives because of this stupid (expletive)."

"This is a wake up call for me, I have to be smarter & last night I wasn't… everything happens for a reason," he added to the micro blogging site.

As for his time behind bars, Hart said he did "6,000 push ups & 13,000 sit ups."

"Shout out to my celly 'Mark' we exchanged war stories LMFAO," Hart also posted to Twitter.

Hart is best known for his 2011 movie "Laugh at my Pain," and he has also appeared in various movies such as "Think Like A Man" and "The Five-Year Engagement." The comedian has also appeared on television on shows including "Modern Family."

The 32-year-old star is not the first celebrity to encounter a brush with the law over drunk driving.

MTV "Teen Mom" star Farrah Abraham was arrested in Omaha on St. Patrick's Day after taking a breathalyzer test that revealed she was nearly twice over the legal alcohol limit, according to TMZ.

The reality television star has not yet received a sentence for the DUI, but her next court date is April 29.
