Keyshia Cole, Daniel Gibson Say God Brought Them Together

Keyshia Cole, R&B songstress and wife to Cleveland Cavalier Daniel Gibson, has credited her husband's faith for bringing the two together.

In the January issue of Ebony magazine, Cole opens up about Gibson's faith in God and gravitating towards that.

"I was kind of through with relationships. I didn't feel like guys were mature enough," Cole said. "What made me gravitate toward Gib was his faith in God, more than anything. He seemed like a loving person."

The pair was introduced four years ago, after Gibson told their mutual stylist that he wanted to meet the singer. Still, the NBA player admitted that they took old-fashioned steps in getting to know one another.

"The crazy thing about me and Key is that we talked on the phone for three or four months before ever meeting in person. We did the high school thing – we talked on the phone until the morning," Gibson told Ebony. I felt like she was perfect for me. I proposed to her on New Year's Eve, right when the ball dropped."

Still, with countless celebrity couples announcing their divorce, Gibson said keeping God in his marriage helped to maintain it. The Cavaliers player spoke about the desire to commit from a male's perspective.

"From a male standpoint, I just think you've got to actually commit," Gibson said. "She has to be the right one, if not, you won't feel enough inside of you to give her everything you've got."

He told the publication that lining things up with God is the guaranteed way to make things work in a marriage.

"If she's the one and you hear it and feel it [from God], commit your mind, body and soul to make it work so that you can be the man God wants you to be," he said. "That's the only way you'll make it work. People go through things."
