'Kong: Skull Island' Plot Spoilers, Cast Rumors: Setting of Movie Revealed

Not much has been known about the upcoming Legendary Pictures big screen offering "Kong: Skull Island" except for the reports indicating that Kings of Summer's Jordan Vogt-Roberts is leading the project as director and Max Borenstein of "Godzilla" is joining the crew as script writer.

Several other reports also pointed out the involvement of Tom Hiddleston (Avengers), J.K. Simmons (Juno) and John Gatis (Flight) as cast members.

The only thing revealed about the plot of the forthcoming title is that it will be set "in an entirely new, distinct timeline."

This notion was further given light by Simmons who had recently been nominated for Best Supporting Actor award in Oscar for his role as the terror jazz band leader Terence Fletcher in 2014 "Whiplash."

Speaking with MTV, the talk leads towards his slated appearance in Skull Island. As said by the 60-year-old "Juno" actor, the film will be set in Detroit during the 1970s.

"When it first came to my attention -- 'There's interest in you for a new King Kong' -- I thought, 'Okay, why?' you know? But then I met with Jordan Vogt-Roberts, who's going to be directing it and John Gatins, who's writing, and Tom (Hiddleston). Jordan was just so passionate and so smart, and there's such an interesting new take on it. AND, it's set in Detroit in 1971 -- which is where I grew up -- and we're going to shoot in Detroit during Baseball season, and I'll be able to go to Tigers games. So, I mean, there's a lot to like about this movie," the actor told Screen Rant.

ScreenRant speculated that based on the given information about the film's location, it is possible that the beast's iconic Empire State climb in New York won't be featured.

"Kong: Skull Island" is targeting a March 2017 theatrical release.
