'Kung Fu Panda 3' News: Sequel Coming January 2016; Kate Hudson Among The Voice Actors

Kate Hudson will be voicing Po's love interest, Mei Mei when "Kung Fu Panda 3" premieres in theaters by January next year.

Actress Kate Hudson is wired to play Po's love interest opposite Jack Black in the upcoming sequel, "Kung Fu Panda 3," posting a video on her Instagram account asking fans to "watch me whip, watch me Mei Mei."

The DreamWorks Animation and Oriental DreamWorks film, which will be distributed by 20th Century Fox, follows the chronicles of Po, who is set to reunite with his biological father (Bryan Cranston), and where he discovers a secret panda sanctuary where he is dismayed to discover he doesn't fit in.

In the process of attempting to assimilate, he meets Mei Mei, who was promised to him in an arranged marriage when they were cubs. He also encounters an evil spirit Kai (J.K. Simmons), who has begun to terrorize all of China while stealing the powers of kung fu masters he has defeated.

Po is tasked to train his village of clumsy, peace-loving pandas, and transform them all into a deadly team of Kung Fu Pandas to defeat Kai.

Apart from Black, who returns as the voice of Po, the original cast of characters will be making their voice re-appearances, including Angelina Jolie as Tigress, Dustin Hoffman as Master Shifu, Jackie Chan as Monkey, Lucy Liu as Viper, David Cross as Crane, and Randall Duk Kim as Master Oogway.

The cast is rounded off by Hudson, Simmons, Cranston, Seth Rogen as Mantis, James Hong as Mr. Ping, and Steele Gagnon as Bao. The sequel will be directed by the team-up of Jennifer Yuh Nelson and Alessandro Carloni, and produced by Melissa Cob based on a screenplay written by Glenn Berger and Jonathan Aibel.

The "Kung Fu Panda" franchise is said to have six chapters in it. "Kung Fu Panda 3" is expected to premiere in theaters on January 29, 2016.
