On Wednesday, two complaints were filed against a Florida abortion clinic where workers allegedly refused to help a mother after her baby boy was born alive.
Represented by the Liberty Counsel, the mother - identified by the first name Angele - says that clinic workers refused to help her when, on the second day of a two-day abortion procedure, she gave birth to a live baby boy. Angele says that workers neglected her cries, and as a result, her baby boy, whom she named Rowan, died at the facility.
Liberty Counsel filed complaints with the Florida Department of Health and the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration. The complaints charge Dr. Harry Perper, the doctor who performed the first day of abortion procedures on Angele, and Dr. James Pendergraft, the owner of the clinic, with violations of state law. Details of the charges include the absence of a doctor at the clinic during the abortion procedure, the lack of post-operative care given to the patient, and unsanitary conditions of the clinic.
Mathew D. Staver, President and General Counsel of Liberty Counsel, said, We are hopeful that these complaints will lead to immediate change in the form of discipline against the doctors and revocation of the abortion license for the clinic.
Staver also commented on the need for change regarding regulation of abortion clinics.
We are also hopeful that these complaints will serve as the catalyst for long-term change. Abortion clinics are the least regulated medical facilities in the state of Florida. That needs to change, said Staver.
Staver concluded by saying that a culture of life must be restored in society. "These doctors need to be held accountable for their actions, and we intend to pursue these complaints to that end. Part of promoting a culture of life in America means holding abortion doctors and clinics accountable when they violate the law."
