Lolo Jones Olympic Twitter Post on Guns Labeled 'Insensitive'

Lolo Jones sparked some controversy on social media site Twitter Saturday by making what some are calling an "insensitive" tweet about guns.

Jones is one of Team USA's favorite athletes at the London 2012 Olympic Games, and many are cheering her on to win the gold in the 100 meter hurdles. However, some fans were left a little concerned by her recent tweet.

Responding to the Unites States' archery team losing out on a gold medal to Italy on Saturday, Lolo tweeted, "USA Men's Archery lost the gold medal to Italy, but that's ok, we are Americans...When's da gun shooting competition?"

The tweet caused a number of responses from fans concerned that Jones did not realize how what she had just written could be taken by some. It seems that Jones quickly realized that she had put her foot in her mouth and the controversial tweet was later deleted from her account.

The Unites States is still in a state of shock over the recent Colorado shootings, when alleged lone gunman James Holmes entered an Aurora, Colorado movie theater with four guns and opened fire on the crowd. Hundreds had gathered at the theater for a midnight premiere showing of new Batman movie "The Dark Knight Rises," but the tragic turn of events saw 12 shot dead, and another 58 wounded and hospitalized.

Jones obviously was not referencing the Colorado shootings in her tweet, but many back home immediately thought of the tragedy as soon as they read the hurdler's posting. Most who were critical of Jones simply said that she was perhaps a little insensitive or ignorant about what she had tweeted.

However, Jones also responded about her faux pas, tweeting an explanation: "Sorry u guys only think of violence but I think of all the hunting I do w southerners in da south. Its impressive."
