Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard Expecting Second Child

Actors Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard have confirmed that they are pregnant and that their 5-year-old daughter will soon have a sibling.

“Garden State” and “Green Lantern” star Sarsgaard and his wife Gyllenhaal married in 2009, but have been together since 2002.

A source close to the actress said Gyllenhaal will “be laying low for a little bit now,” after confirming the previous rumors that she was pregnant in October during the Rome Film Festival.

“Over Thanksgiving weekend, Maggie was telling friends that she’s six months pregnant,” the source told Life & Style magazine. “Her bump is so big!”

The insider added, “She’s thrilled to be pregnant! She and Peter wanted another child for awhile. They’re very happy that they’ll have another baby in the house soon.”
In a past interview with UsMagazine.com, the Academy Award nominee admitted that maintaining her career and being there for her daughter can be difficult to juggle.

“I had been so focused on Ramona- and she’s been everything to me- but I’m also an actress. It’s not possible to do it perfectly,” said Gyllenhaal. “Being a mom is so present in my mind and my work. It’s the most important thing about me, but next I’d like to play someone who’s not a mother.”

The actress is currently promoting her new comedy film, “Hysteria.”

UsMagazine.com also reported that Gyllenhaal’s brother, fellow actor Jake, is excited to become an uncle again.

“Jake is so happy that she’s pregnant again because he loves kids,” said the source close to the family. “Maggie’s said that he’s the best uncle and has done a lot of sweet things for her first child.”

Gyllenhaal appeared in “Jarhead” alongside his brother-in-law Sarsgaard in 2005. He is best known for his role in “Brokeback Mountain,” which co-starred Heath Ledger.
