Most Americans Approve of God's Job Performance

It seems the majority of Americans approve of God’s job performance, which is more than President Obama can say.

Public Policy Polling (PPP) released the results of their poll on Tuesday in which 928 Americans were asked questions like, “If God exists, do you approve or disapprove of its performance?” and “If God exists, do you approve or disapprove of its handling of natural disasters?”

Fifty two percent of Americans were recorded as approving of God’s performance, nine percent disapprove, and 40 percent said they weren’t sure. This, according to the PPP, makes “God as popular as (Rupert) Murdoch is unpopular.”

According to the Daily Caller, Michael Sadowsky, who came up with the questions, said the PPP includes “silly” questions for fun sometimes.

“I felt an approval rating for God would be an interesting silly question as polls on God almost always ask what one’s beliefs are, not how good a job the deity in question is doing,” he said, as quoted by the Daily Caller.

Sadowsky continued in saying he had expected for God to get good ratings in America, where the majority of citizens claim to be Christians. However, he wasn’t so sure on how they would rate God’s job performance on natural disasters. Fifty percent said they approve of God’s handling of natural disasters, 13 percent disapprove.

Young people, however, were more critical of God’s handling of natural disasters. Those between ages 18-29 rated the performance 59 percent approving, 26 percent disapproving. Those polled over age 65 gave the performance 47 percent approval rating and 12 percent disapproval.

Sadowsky was careful not to use language that would refer to God as a male, according to the Daily Caller.

“God was referred to as ‘it’ rather than ‘he’ because not everyone who believes in God believes God to be male,” Sadowsky said. “Using ‘it’ in the God questions allowed them to be more inclusive.”

God receives highest marks when regarding the question of “creating the universe.” Seventy-one percent of Americans approve in God’s handling of creating the universe while only 5 percent disapprove.

The survey was conducted from July 15 to 17. The margin of error is plus or minus 3.2 percent.
