Malala Yousufazi, 14-Year-Old Shooting Victim, Moved to UK for Recovery

The young blogger, Malala Yousufazi has been transferred to the United Kingdom for further medical treatment, as well as for her own protection from the Taliban. The 14-year-old was shot in the head and neck by members of the Taliban seeking revenge for Yousufzi's outspoken blog detailing life under the harsh regime.

"It was agreed by the panel of Pakistani doctors and international experts that Malala will require prolonged care to fully recover from the physical and psychological effects of trauma that she has received," a military aide told the Associated Press.

Yousufazi was moved from the country under the protection of darkness and was escorted by military personnel. The United Arab Emirates provided the specially equipped aircraft needed for transportation.

Members of the Taliban shot the young girl in the head and neck last week after contually speaking out against the Taliban's harsh regime and treatment of women and girls. She was specifically targeted by the regime while on her way home from school.

Experts are cautiously optimistic that she will make a recovery, though they are uncertain what that means for her future. The United Kingdom is more equipped to deal with the severity of Yousufazi's injuries and needs, which include "intensive neuro rehabilitation."

"The UK stands shoulder to shoulder with Pakistan in its fight against terrorism. Malala's bravery in standing up for the right of all young girls in Pakistan to an education is an example to us all," British Foreign Secretary William Hague said in a statement.

The entire world has rallied around Yousufazi as she struggles to recover from the shooting. Her blog is a startling reminder of the oppression both young and older women still face under the reign of the Taliban.

Police have arrested three of the suspected shooters but are still unclear as to who actually ordered the hit on the young girl.
