One man, however, has introduced a new and cleaner way of making a face on a gourd: a rifle. Duh!
Hickok45 is a gun enthusiast with a YouTube account and he's not afraid to use either one, uploading a tutorial on how to carve a pumpkin with a rifle.
As he put it, "It becomes my responsibility to educate the unenlightened public on the proper way to carve a pumpkin."
"And my way is not nearly as messy," promises the rifle-toting, cap-wearing fellow who proceeds to show viewers the educated way to form a smile on a pumpkin's orange exterior.
Uploaded to YouTube a couple weeks before the spooky observance, the video has accumulated over 2.1 million views and more than 9,000 likes.
