Martina Navratilova and 'Dancing With the Stars' Part Ways After Elimination

Tennis legend Martina Navratilova has been eliminated from the widely popular television dancing competition "Dancing With The Stars."

Navratilova, 55, who is considered to be one of the greatest women's tennis players of all time, was classy in her exit stating that being able to participate on the show "was a great experience."

Although being eliminated is never easy she understood that if anyone makes mistakes they have the possibility of being eliminated. "But I blew it yesterday, and it cost me," she said.

The two other contestants who finished at the bottom based on the judges scores were Melissa Gilbert and Gladys Knight.

They were both spared elimination early in the show. The scoring system uses a combination of judges' scores and viewer votes to produce the ratings and show which star is up for elimination.

Navratilova made her early exit one day after she had a difficult time dancing the jive. After she left the show she spoke with CNN and shared her feelings on her experience.

"I loved learning how to dance," Navratilova told CNN. "I loved working with Tony and I'm going to continue learning how to dance."

Tony Dovolani has been dancing as a professional dancer with the show for 13 seasons, but has never won the Mirrorball Trophy and really thought that his team could have gone far in the competition this year.

"I'm actually kind of devastated. I'm surprised America didn't give us another chance, as I wanted them to see Martina's heart," he said. "She completely exceeded my expectations."

Another of the couples in jeopardy last night was Gavin DeGraw and Karina Smirnoff, who only scored a combined total of 41 but was spared elimination.

The most vocal the audience got was when Roshon Fegan and Chelsie Hightower were also up for elimination. The audience voiced their disapproval through a chorus of boos. They still have one more week to prove that they belong on the dance floor.
