'MasterChef Junior' Season 5: Jasmine, Syd Get Eliminated in Episode 7

Thursday's episode of "MasterChef Junior" season 5 featured the return "Top Chef All-Stars" winner Richard Blais as a guest judge for the remaining young cooks aspiring to win the competition.

"MasterChef Junior" season 5 episode 7 opened with Chef Gordon Ramsay and Chef Christina Tosi welcoming the remaining 12 contestants to the MasterChef kitchen. The guest judge for that night was then revealed to be Chef Blais, who expressed to the contestants his excitement to witness their cooking skills in the upcoming challenge.

For the challenge, the competing cooks were grouped into teams of three and their team's composition depended on the color of the straws they drew. The blue team consisted of Lila, Mark and Syd. The brown team was comprised of Justise, Afnan and Evan. The yellow team included Shayne, Peyton and Cydney, while the red team was made up of Avani, Jasmine and Adam.

The culinary challenge was within Christina's area of expertise and she revealed that they were going to make a Pistachio pudding pie. The teams were instructed to make as many pies as possible, followed by a demonstration from Christina on how to make one.

In the end, the brown team managed to make the most number of pies, which meant Evan, Justise and Afnan were safe from elimination.

Richard revealed to the remaining nine contestants that they would be preparing a dish using his favorite cooking tool to work with — a blow-torch. For the elimination challenge, they must use the torch to create an impressive dish within 45 minutes. It was also revealed that two of the young cooks would be going home after the challenge.

The winning dish of the elimination challenge was prepared by 8-year-old Avani. On the other hand, Jasmine, Mark, Syd and Shayne were called forward as the cooks who performed the worst during the challenge. Eventually, Jasmine and Syd were told to return to their cooking stations, with Jasmine and Syd got eliminated from the competition.

Next week, "MasterChef Junior" season 5 will return with its eighth episode titled "Winner, Winner Chicken Dinner." The synopsis published by TV Guide about the forthcoming episode reads:

"Six kids who have gone home get a second chance to re-enter the competition by participating in two challenges that involve breaking apart a chicken and using the parts to make unique dishes. Richard Blais makes another appearance as the guest judge."

"MasterChef Junior" Season 5 airs every Thursday at 8 p.m. EDT on FOX.
