Members of Congress spar over Trump’s capture of Maduro: ‘Reckless’ or protecting Americans?
1. Adam Smith
Rep. Adam Smith, D-Wash., ranking member of the House Armed Services Committee, said the strike created chaos and accused Secretary of State Marco Rubio of misleading Congress and the public.
In a statement, Smith warned the mission “introduced new chaos and instability into the region.” He said the administration offered “little consideration” for what would follow, creating “a dangerous vacuum” across South America.
Smith criticized the operation for being launched without congressional approval, saying it “shows that Secretary Rubio misled Congress and the American people.” He added that such military actions “do not make Americans safer” and do nothing to address the everyday cost-of-living issues affecting citizens at home.
