A Mexico mass kidnapping has seen 11 people abducted in broad daylight from a bar in Mexico City's Zona Rosa, according to reports this week.

The area is reported by locals to normally be calm, being a district with many offices, restaurants and bars in it. However, sometime between 10 a.m. and noon on Sunday the mass kidnapping took place, sparking terror into local residents and workers.

The abduction took place just off the Paseo de la Reforma, the city's main boulevard, about 1 1/2 blocks from the U.S. Embassy.

Family members of those taken marched from the Interior Department building to the Zocalo, the city's main square on Thursday morning, calling on authorities to do more to find their loved ones and bring those behind the kidnappings to justice.

The families also later protested outside the bar where their relatives were taken, and called for surveillance camera footage to be shown to them.

Josefina Garcia, mother of Said Sanchez Garcia, 19, who was one of those kidnapped, has said, "How could so many people have disappeared, just like that, in broad daylight? The police say they don't have them, so what, the earth just opened up and swallowed them?" according to Fox News.

Officially authorities have said they have received 11 reports of missing persons in the incident, however, there are reports among local residents that as many as 15 or 16 were in fact abducted.

Among those known to have been taken there were six men, mostly aged in their 20s, as well as a 16-year-old boy, and four young women.

Authorities have not speculated as to the motive behind the attacks, but many believe that the kidnappings are related to organized crime organizations.
