Michael Schumacher Health Update, News: Recovery Timescale Could Range from 1 to 3 Years, Doctor Claims

For those who are wondering the condition of the fallen Michael Schumacher, rest assured that the Formula One legend is getting better each day but talking about full recover. Total recovery could take a long time though, according to reports.

Dr. Jean-Francois Payen, the head of Anesthesiology Department at Grenoble University Hospital in Switzerland, said that there has been "progress" in the racer's recovery. He has cared for Schumacher was following the skiing accident in the French Alps in December 2013.

"I have seen some progress but I would say give him time. It's like other patients, we are in a timescale that ranges from one year to three years, so it takes patience," Payen told Le Parisien.

"Life after a head injury is punctuated by stages," Payen explained further to RTL Radio about the recovery hypothesis. "We hope, but we have to give him time."

"I kept seeing him, first at the University Hospital of Lausanne, and now at home. It's to see how he progresses and tell his wife and children what changes I observed," the medical specialist went on to say. "He's in very favorable conditions. This plays a big role. The family environment is anyway best for the patient. His wife is surrounded by excellent advice and has implemented all it takes for it to move forward."

Schumi's former Ferrari boss, Jean Todt, meanwhile told a media publication about his visit to the Schumachers.

"We can say he can probably never drive a Formula 1 car again. But he is fighting," he said. "His condition improved, and what is just as important is the fact that he is now at home with his family."
