Mitt Romney Hires Journey for Concert at RNC

As part of the Republican National Convention, Mitt Romney has called on the timeless band Journey to perform at a fundraiser. Many other big acts, however, are steering clear of both conventions.

The concert is set to take place on Thursday night at a private fundraising party in Tampa, Fla., according to reports. The show is scheduled to take place during the middle of the Republican National Convention and will include a 90-minute performance from the band.

Journey has not officially endorsed the presumptive Republican presidential candidate and said they are treating this show as just another paid performance.

Along with the performance comes and interesting turn of events. Michaele Salahi, who left her husband and ran off with Journey member Neal Schon, will be in attendance, according to sources. The pair has been together for nearly a year.

The band is scheduled to headline an invitation-only show that is expected to be one for the ages and top off an entertainment filled week at the convention. The concert will be held at Liberty Plaza just a few blocks away from the Tampa Bay Times Forum, the site of the Republican National Convention.

Another famous rock band was set to open the convention but was unable to do so.

Lynyrd Skynyrd was supposed to perform a special concert Sunday in Tampa, Fla., ahead of the Republican National Convention, but was forced to cancel the performance as Tropical Strom Isaac barreled down on the gulf coast.

The band cancelled the concert as a precautionary measure due to Tropical Storm Isaac.

"We were excited to be participating in the Republican National Convention and the Liberty Plaza concert. With the weather conditions unknown and for the safety of our fans and friends, it is best to cancel the show and not put anyone in harm's way," according to a statement by singer Johnny Van Zant.
