The tornadoes of Moore, Oklahoma and the surrounding Midwest have left the area in utter chaos and devastation. The United Methodist Church stresses some of the more important things with ways to help.

The power of prayer should be at the top of the list as a starting point. For a list of emotional care and prayer resources UMC is instructing people to head here.

For those looking to be more hands on without necessarily being on-site, assembling supply kits is very important and crucial to fit the needs of those with nothing. UMC is looking for hygiene and health kits, school supplies, bedding kits, and even nightgowns and pajamas. For more info on supply kits click here.

The church is also accepting donations directly to the United Methodist Committee of Relief (UMCOR), and are promising 100 percent of the money going to relief efforts.

"Through local United Methodist churches and trained disaster response workers, UMCOR provides immediate relief, assistance with cleanup and rebuilding, pastoral counseling and support for children and youth who have been through trauma," the press release from the church reads.

Donate online here or call 1-800-554-8583. You can also text the word RESPONSE to 80888 to make an immediate $10 donation.

Lastly, people can help create and prepare a team of volunteers. UMCOR's supply depots and assemble/check-in spots are located in Baldwin, Louisiana and Salt Lake City, Utah. For more information on how to begin getting a team ready click here.

UMCOR is a non-profit organization branched of the United Methodist Church. Their mission statement is: "Compelled by Christ to be a voice of conscience on behalf of the people called Methodist, UMCOR works globally to alleviate human suffering and advance hope and healing."
