Mulder & Scully Separate and the Lone Gunmen Return for 'The X-Files' Reboot
At the recent New York Comic Con, Fox showcased the eagerly awaited return of "The X-Files" to a crowd that was shocked when it was confirmed that Mulder and Scully will no longer be a pair, they are now separated! It was also confirmed to the crowd that the Lone Gunmen will be back.
"The X-Files" will be back on Fox in January for a six-episode run with its original leads, David Duchovny as FBI agent Fox Mulder and Gillian Anderson as Dana Scully. Her status now is of a former partner and ex-lover. That, viewers agree, is a mighty change to the show.
After the premiere episode was shown at the event, Creator Chris Carter told the disappointed crowd, "We wanted to be true to the passage of time. Mulder and Scully have had their difficulties."
The iconic show's success rested not only on the fantastic, supernatural tales that it showed viewers each week, but because fans were also eager to know what happens next in the complex relationship of Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. Week after week, fans savoured the thrilling episodes and marvelled at the fabulous chemistry of Mulder and Scully.
Carter confirmed that the Lone Gunmen will return for the 2016 reboot. He did not reveal much detail but it is widely known that it is because of the Lone gunmen that Mulder is obsessed with conspiracy theories and if fans remember, in the Season 9 episode titled "Jump the Shark," the Lone Gunmen were wiped out by a deadly bioterrorist virus and then buried in the Arlington National Cemetery.
It is also confirmed that Mulder will be doing something new but his character will not change.
At the event, Duchovny said "The best work we ever do is when we're just trying to tell the best story and trying to be the most interesting Mulder and Scully we can be. Everybody's better, but it's not exactly the same and people might get pissed off about that. I got older, I can't help it. If I could've stayed 30 years old, believe me — for the fans, I would've done it."
How Mulder and Scully will solve the mysteries before them and how the Lone Gunmen will make a comeback will be clear once "The X-Files" begins airing.
