National Prime Rib Day Celebrated Today
This year, National Prime Rib Day has arrived on Friday and people everywhere are choosing to eat the special meat in celebration.
April 27 honors the choice beef cut from the primal rib, which is one of the eight primal cuts of beef. The entire rib section comprises of ribs six through twelve of the animal. Prime rib contains the "eye" of the rib as well as the outer, fat-marbled muscle known as the "lip" or "cap."
The popular dish is often roasted standing up with the ribs stacked up vertically so that bones can be removed with ease. Traditionally, the meat is rubbed with salt and seasonings before being slow roasted with dry heat.

In the U.S., many people apply smoke to the uncooked rib roast at a low heat for two to three hours before dry roasting. In the U.K., prime rib sometimes appears in Yorkshire puddings that are served as s side dish as a traditional Sunday Roast.
On Twitter, users are taking note of National Prime Rib Day. A retailer in the Washington, D.C. area, The Dandelion Patch, is offering customers a discount in light of the holiday.
"Happy National Prime Rib Day," wrote the company. "Come celebrate with us 25% off all in-store merchandise today, tomorrow, and Sunday."
Jessica wrote, "YUM I had prime rib last night 4 dinner! Sooo good."
Pepper Plate posted, "What's for dinner tonight? How about prime rib to celebrate National Prime Rib Day?"
Brown Palace Hotel in Denver, Colorado, wrote, "What better way to celebrate National Prime Rib Day than a tasty Prime Rib sandwich as Ship Tavern?"
Other Twitters users suggested items to accompany the poplar beef dish on Friday.
"Today is the day to try some Raspberry Rhubarb Slab Pie," wrote JoyOfKosher.
"Get primed' for ready because April 27 is National Prime Rib Day," wrote VinVillage. "What wine should we have with it?"
In addition to National Prime Rib Day, Friday also marks Babe Ruth Day in honor of the baseball legend and environmental awareness booster, Arbor Day.
One Twitter user, Becca, joked: "It's arbor day AND national prime rib day… Go plant a beef tree!"
