Nelly Tour Bus Raid: Rapper Detained for Heroin, Marijuana, and a Gun
Rap artist Nelly has been detained in Texas earlier this week after police found heroin, marijuana, and a loaded gun on his tour bus.
Nelly's tour bus was stopped at a border patrol checkpoint in Sierra Blanca when police dogs detected the presence of drugs.
Officers at the scene found 0.64 ounces of heroin among 36 small plastic bags, more than 10 pounds of marijuana and a loaded .45-caliber pistol, according to MTV News.
Although the illegal items were found on Nelly's bus, a man named Brian Keith Jones reportedly confessed that the items were his and was subsequently arrested. After being detained, Nelly was eventually released. Five others who were on the bus were also released.
Nelly took to his Twitter account expressing anger over the run-in with the law.
"I'm not gonna front I'm MAD as Hell about this s---!!," posted the rapper on Thursday. "2have some1 who works 4u n who u call a friend 4 ova 1-years jeopardize ur life WTF?"
He then added, "That being said he was not only an employee but he was fam some1 who protected my life 4many years!No excuses for wad he did!!!!"
The 37-year-old rapper also commented on the incident while speaking to TMZ.
"It is my understanding a member of my staff made an unfortunate decision to bring unlawful materials onto our tour bus that resulted in his arrest this morning," said Nelly, according to the website. "Neither I nor anyone else on the tour bus was aware of his decision to being these on board."
Presumably relieved, Nelly added, "Law enforcement officials did not press charges against anyone other than that individual."
Meanwhile, sources close to Nelly told TMZ that the contents of the small plastic bags were not heroin as police confirmed, but ecstasy. Law enforcement sources clarified that the contents was heroin despite others' claims.
A Texas native, Nelly is best known for his songs "Hot In Herre," "Dilemma," and "Work It," among many others.
The Grammy Award-winning rapper, born Cornell Iral Haynes, is also an actor who has appeared in the film "The Longest Yard." He also has two clothing lines, Vokal and Apple Bottoms.
