NFL Thursday Night Football 2017 takes place tonight with a big game between the New England Patriots and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Tonight's clash takes place from the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, and has a scheduled start time of 8.25 p.m. ET. The Patriots are teetering on 2-2 after a slightly disappointing start to the new season. However, despite their less than overwhelming record, they have managed to claim their status as the No. 1 offense in the NFL through the opening month.

Quarterback Tom Brady has thrown for 1,399 yards, with an offense averaging 423 yards per game so far.

However, the excellent work carried out by the offense has been largely undone by a defense that has allowed a league high 456.8 yards on average per game. They must fine a way to plug some pretty large holes in their defense if they are to replicate the success they've had in recent seasons.

Today they face a Tampa Bay Buccaneers team that has gone 2-1 so far coming into Week 5, and the Patriots know if they slip up again here tonight they will drop below .500, which would spark panic among the New England faithful.

Brady will no doubt have seen that the Buccaneers have a defense that has given up yards generously through their opening three games. Tampa Bay have allowed 394 yards per game on average.

Bugs head coach Dirk Koetter has spoken about the Patriots' defensive woes so far this season, saying: "When you study them, they're an amoeba defense. They can play any personnel group, they can change from week-to-week, they can be in even-front one week, an odd-front next week, they will play dime the whole game.

"They've got a nickel package, a dime package (and a) quarter package. They've always been able to adjust. They will switch at halftime and they've always been a very difficult team to plan for. In that respect, maybe it's better that we do play them on a Thursday night."
