New York will be celebrating New Year's 2016 on Thursday night, and this year's annual Times Square ball drop for 2016 is expected to as spectacular as ever. The New Year's Times Square celebrations will center on the theme of the "Gift of Imagination" with the huge ball set to begin its drop from 11.59 p.m. ET tonight. The New York New Year's celebration can be watched on TV on the ABC network or online through free live stream via the link below.

This year's Times Square ball will feature an amazing array of 2,688 pieces of crystal triangles, which should ensure a light spectacle for millions at the event and watching live on TV around the world.

Organizers of this year's event have said that they want theme of this year's event portray the "wonderment, fantasy and optimism that nourishes the seeds of knowledge and achievement."

Each of the 2,688 crystal triangles are 3/8 inch thick, 4.75 inch to 5.75 inch in length and each weighs 6.8 ounces.

Those hoping to get into Times Square for the live event will be happy to know the festivities will not require a ticket and will be absolutely free to attend. However, revelers are advised to get there as early as possible to make sure they get the best spots available.

The event will be shown live on TV from 6 p.m. ET when the Times Square ball will be raised up, and the night will feature various performances and features throughout the evening until the climax and the ball drop.

Headlining the night will be Jessie J, who will be performing John Lennon's "Imagine". CNN's Anderson Cooper will also be hosting the hourly countdown at 6.58 p.m. ET, with Bill Nye the Science Guy taking over the hourly update at 8.58 p.m. ET.

The first performance of the night though will be at 8.05 p.m. ET with Daya and Wiz Khalifa.

Jessie J will be performing "Price Tag," "Domino" and "Bang Bang" on the Planet Fitness Stage at 9:11 p.m. ET.

Demi Lovato will also feature with a medley of "Cool for the Summer" and "Confident" for ABC's "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve" at 9:34 p.m. ET.

Carrie Underwood will perform "Smoke Break," "Heartbeat" and "Before He Cheats" for "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve" at 11:38 p.m. ET as the countdown moves towards its climax.

But it will be Jesse J to give the final performance of the night at 11.51 p.m. ET with John Lennon's "Imagine".

When her set ends at 11.58 p.m. then the crowd will prepare for the 60 second countdown ahead of midnight.

New York City Mayor Bill deBlasio will push the button to commence the New Year's Eve Times Square Ball Drop. The massive ball weighing 11,875 pounds will descend 70 feet.

The New Year's festivities in New York City in Times Square will end at 12:15 a.m. ET. on January 1, 2016.
