Nokia 8 Release Date, Specs News: FCC Filing Reveals 6 GB Smartphone; Hints at Upcoming United States Release

A recently leaked document was filed with the Federal Communications Commission and could be a hint that the high-end smartphone, Nokia 8, is coming soon for U.S. consumers.

The FCC filing that was exclusively shared by Nokia Power User showed two FCC IDs with model numbers TA-1012 and TA-1004. The report claimed this represents the two variants of the Nokia 8 with the main differences found on its random access memory and storage capacities.

In the same document, it was specified that HMD Global has added a variant of the supposed Nokia 8 with 6 GB RAM and 128 GB internal storage.

It was also confirmed that the Nokia 8 variants coming to the U.S. will have the ANT+ feature enabled that will let software applications installed on Nokia 8 track the user's sports and fitness activities as well as monitor their health-related data in real-time.

Meanwhile, earlier this month, HMD Global opened the pre-order page for their highly anticipated flagship, the Nokia 8, for smartphone buyers in the United Kingdom. Shipping of the device commenced a couple of weeks later.

Now that the FCC listing has recently surfaced, many smartphone fans are hoping to hear a release date announcement in the United States soon.

The earlier released variant of the Nokia 8 in other parts of the world have lesser memory specifications: 4 GB RAM and 64 GB internal storage.

If the memory capacities are the only changes to be expected in the U.S.-released Nokia 8, the device will sport an IPS LCD display panel that measures 5.3 inches and projects at 2,560 x 1,440 pixel resolution.

It comes out of the box with the latest version of Android Nougat for its operating system and is powered by the latest mobile system-on-chip from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 835. Despite the bump in the memory capacities, the U.S. version of the Nokia 8 is also likely to sport a microSD card slot that can accommodate as much as 256 GB extra storage.

The Nokia 8 also has a dual 13-megapixel lens for its rear-side camera paired with another 13 MP sensor in the front.
