'Pacific Rim 2' Spoilers, Cast News: Will Maisie Williams Be a Jaeger Pilot in the Sequel?

Guillermo del Toro's sequel to the successful 2013 movie "Pacific Rim" has been the talk in the past month. After the confirmation of the second installment, many fans were immediately displeased to know that the original 2017 release date has been pushed back. The only reason for Universal and Legendary to make the delay was to make sure that "Pacific Rim 2" will be "the vanguard, fully immersive experience that the franchise deserves." Although this has been seemingly frustrating to those waiting for the film, it does appear that development is still ongoing.

According to Screen Rant, del Toro himself gave an update on what could be happening in the sequel. The famed director went on Twitter to share that he had lunch with Maisie Williams, who is well known for playing Arya in HBO's "Game of Thrones." His tweet reads, "Had lunch with Maisie Williams yesterday. Remarkable. Dammit- if PR2 happens, that girl is getting a Jaeger." Fans of the franchise know that Jaegers are the robots with an enormity designed to battle the interdimensional monsters. Each Jaeger is controlled by two pilots, whose minds need to be in total sync with the mechanics.

Seeing the first movie, it would be no surprise why del Toro would see Williams inside a Jaeger. As for anyone familiar with Williams' character, her spunk and personality are quite fitting for the role of a pilot. Her determination as Arya can definitely be a basis if a role in "Pacific Rime 2" would require her to play someone with the same perseverance and courage. Williams was also chosen by Sony to be the female lead in "The Last of Us" video game. Williams is branching out more into other corners of the entertainment industry and it would certainly boost her career to be involved in such a big project as "Pacific Rim 2."
