Pastor Rick Warren Returns Home After Brief Hospitalization

Pastor Rick Warren of Saddleback Church, who was hospitalized Tuesday after experiencing pain in his arms and numbness in his fingers, is back home.

The Orange County Register on Thursday quoted Warren's wife, Kay, as saying he is fine and back home.

The Southern California pastor "attended the Anaheim Mayor's Prayer Breakfast this morning," Anne Krumm, a Saddleback Church official, told the Register. Warren was released from the hospital on Wednesday.

The megachurch pastor underwent a series of tests to determine what the cause is, although the doctor's "diagnostic guess" was that he has an inner ear virus that may have spread to the nerves in his neck and down his arms.

"They're doing some more tests but for now he's good to go," Krumm added.

Before his release, Warren on Wednesday tweeted, saying jokingly, "Hospitalized for past 2 days for #heart and #brain evaluation. Tests confirm that contrary to skeptics, I do have both."

The day Warren was hospitalized, he told his congregation in an email message he needed their prayers for a "quick and accurate diagnosis and a fast remedy."

"Last night I started experiencing pain down both my arms and numbness in all my fingers, so I decided to have it checked out at a hospital," he wrote. "Currently, the doctor's diagnostic guess is that an inner ear virus I picked up last week may have spread to the nerves in my neck and radiated down my arms. But that's just a guess until they do a full day of tests. This means they're keeping me at the hospital today and overnight."

Warren, pastor of one of the largest churches in the country with over 20,000 attendees on multiple campuses, had to cancel Vision Night planned for Thursday. "I'm disappointed by this delay since I am super excited about what I have to share at Vision Night," the pastor wrote. "But I learned a long time ago to always go with the flow and trust God when plans get messed up. His timing is always best."

Warren is the author of the bestseller The Purpose Driven Life.
