'Penny Dreadful' Season 2 News, Spoilers: Gothic Drama Releases New Trailer, Major Plot Spoilers Reveal 2 New Villains

The popular Gothic horror drama series from Showtime "Penny Dreadful" is now set to return for its highly anticipated second season on April 26.

Featuring brilliant actors Eva Green as Vanessa Ives, Timothy Dalton as Sir Malcolm Murray, Josh Hartnett as Ethan Chandler, and others, the thriller TV show written by John Logan enamored its audience with engrossing otherworldly tales. A recently-released trailer showed that the drama is now raising the stakes for its second chapter, and it's getting bloodier.

In the teaser, one character uses blood to paint a scorpion-like figure on the floor. Scenes shift to another person bathing a tub full of the red liquid.

Spoiler reports meanwhile suggest that Vanessa and the rest are bound to confront new enemies.

In the last season of the show, viewers found the central characters battling the forces of the dark in search for Sir Malcolm's daughter, Mina (Olivia Llewellyn). A report from Screen Rant stated that although Helen McCrory's Evelyn Poole (Madame Kali) was featured rather briefly, the "dark witch" will become the main antagonist this forthcoming season.

But she can't be the only one. ScreenRant reported that Madame Kali will be joined by her "powerful daughter" Hecate, to be played by Sarah Greene.

The two will be the "proper human villains" in the show who otherwise believe within themselves that they are doing the right thing.

"This season we embrace witchcraft," Logan teased. "So I created the character that Helen McCrory plays, Evelyn Poole. We introduced her last season and this season, she becomes the antagonist for not only Vanessa but all the characters."
