President Obama on 'American Idol?' (VIDEO)

President Obama and "American Idol" may be two phrases heard more together after the show reportedly invited the president to appear on a taping.

The move came shortly after Obama broke out in song at an event in Harlem, singing the start to Al Green's "Let's Stay Together."

"American Idol" Producer Nigel Lythgoe made the invite via Twitter Tuesday. "@BarackObama we loved your vocal performance so much we'd love to invite you on to #AmericanIdol this Season for a duet with Al Green," Lythgoe wrote.

It is unclear if the president will ever appear on a taping of the hit show. A video of the singing quickly made its rounds, going viral on the Internet. The video is not the first by a politician to make its way across the Internet.

Former U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft was filmed singing "Let the Eagle Soar," which quickly made its rounds. Ashcroft almost immediately had to deal with the criticism and mocking as a result.

Most recently, Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney was filmed singing "America the Beautiful" at a campaign rally in Florida.

Obama's serenades, however, were arguably the most in-line with pop-culture.

The singing garnered a lot of Twitter attention from the producer of "American Idol," who jumped into the politics game with an election prediction of sorts.

"If it were an election based on vocal talent @barackobama would beat Romney hands down. Mitt was very flat singing "America the Beautiful," Lythgoe tweeted.

It is unclear if any of the recent song and dance will translate into votes for either politician. Obama, though, is the clear favorite of reality TV shows.

Romney suffered a backlash of negative reactions after the video of the GOP candidate surfaced.

The video of Romney singing was recorded at a retirement community on Florida, which allows residents 55 and older to live in the complex.
