Resurrection Debate at New Orleans Baptist Seminary

The resurrection of Jesus is one crucial event in the Bible that continues to be debated over by many scholars and theologians among American and European cultures. This critical issue will be the topic in question at the Greer-Heard Point-Counterpoint Forum: Exploring the Tension of Faith and Culture set for March 11-12 on New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary campus. The forum will feature N.T. Wright and John Dominic Crossan to debate on the topic, “the Resurrection: Historical Event or Hermeneutical Invention?” Responses following the debate will be given by Gary Habermas, William Lane Craig and others.

A prominent evangelical scholar and Bishop of Durham, England, N.T. Wright has been a strong voice in the debate over resurrection, arguing for biblical accounts of Jesus’ resurrection as historically reliable. Opposing this argument is Crossan, a member of the controversial Jesus Seminar, a group regarding less than 20 percent of the New Testament as historically reliable. Crossan believes the resurrection to be a theological interpretation, rather than a factual event.

The forum will be held in conjunction with the annual southwest regional meeting of the Evangelical Theological Society with the plenary speakers, William Lane Craig and N. T. Wright.
