Rick Warren's Secrets of Worship

This year, over 2,500 worship leaders and teams from over 44 states attended the conference July 11-14 at Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, Calif.

"Worship is not a part of your life, it is your life," states Pastor Rick Warren of Purpose Driven Ministries in a recent article. "It’s not just for church services."

Warren who pastors one of the top three largest megachurches in the U.S. teaches, "The Bible tells us to 'worship him continually' " and dispels the common misconception that worship is a type of music.

"Worship is more than music," he says. "Every activity can be transformed into an act of worship when you do it for the praise, glory, and pleasure of God."

The statement came following the annual "Worship Conference and Festival" put on by the Saddleback Church - one of ten conferences each year.

This year, over 2,500 worship leaders and teams from over 44 states attended the conference July 11-14 at Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, Calif.

The conference offered workshops for youth and media pastors, creative arts ministers, worship bands and senior pastors, as well as concerts by some of the Christian music industry's most popular artists.

Pastor Marcos Witt of the Spanish service at Lakewood Church in Houston, TX. told the crowd of "worship leaders" that worship is not about the music. "It's about answering the question 'Is the Lord with you?' Is He in the music? Does He shine in our face?" he said.

The second misconception that Warren debunked after the worship conference is that worship is for one's own benefit.

"I receive notes that say, 'I loved the worship today. I got a lot out of it.' It isn’t for our benefit! When we worship, our goal is to bring pleasure to God, not ourselves," Warren exclaimed.

For the Purpose Driven Church, which holds as its mantra that humanity was created by God to bring Him glory, honor, and delight, worship is life.

"Bringing pleasure to God is called worship. If we fail to worship God, we always find a substitute, even if it ends up being ourselves."

The secret to a lifestyle of worship, according to Warren is doing everything as if one was doing it for Jesus.

"Work becomes worship when you dedicate it to God and perform it with an awareness of his presence."
