Rihanna New Dark 'Do: Hairstyle Won't Help Singer Land Whitney Houston Role (PHOTOS)

Rihanna recently changed up her look, switching out her bleach blonde locks for dark natural waves and a shaved side. Despite chasing after an edgier look however, Rihanna still vocalized that she was interested in playing the more classic Whitney Houston.

New reports have suggested that Hollywood would be interested in creating a biopic about the late Whitney Houston. Plans for the new movie have raised the question of who would play Houston. While others are being considered, including Jennifer Hudson who starred in "Dream Girls" and Jordin Sparks, Rihanna has also expressed an extreme interest in the role.

The R&B star has stated that she would be willing to give quite a lot in order to have the opportunity to play Whitney Houston.

"That would be something that I would have to give my entire life to do, because I would really want to pull it off," Rihanna said. "That's a huge, huge role, and whoever does it has to do a good job."

The singer also commented on how Houston had made an impact on her career.

"My first song that I remember falling in love with was a Whitney Houston song: 'I Will Always Love You,'" Rihanna stated. "It was really inspiring, and it made me develop a passion for music, so really, she's partly responsible for me being here in this industry."

Rihanna actually first auditioned for Def Jam Records by singing "For the Love of You" to Jay-Z, the president and CEO of the label, and L.A. Reid.

While Rihanna is not currently known for her acting abilities, that may all change come April 11 when she will make her debut in a main role for movie "Battleship."

However, though Rihanna may be pining for the Whitney Houston role, it appears that she may not be favored for the role. According to a Hollywood Gossip survey, 43.9 percent of voters would rather see Jennifer Hudson act out the role with only 22 percent rooting for Rihanna. Her new, shaved hairstyle may also make it more difficult to envision the R&B star as the timeless Whitney Houston.
