Washington Quarterback RG3 Makes NFL History by Beating Out Retired QB

Robert Griffin III's Redskins Jersey Tops Brett Favre Sales

Robert Griffin III, Washington Redskins rookie quarterback who is also a devout Christian, recently broke an NFL record for single-season jersey sales.

Griffin, 22, had the highest number of record sales for his number 10 NFL jersey since the league began recording sales six years ago, NFL spokeswoman Joanna Hunter told ESPN recently. The jersey sales are taken from the official league Internet store,

Although the league's fiscal year takes place from April 1 to March 31, Griffin accomplished the historical achievement with three months left of his his rookie season as a professional football player.

The specific number for Griffin's sales has not yet been released, but ESPN did report that he took retired quarterback Brett Favre's spot who previously held the record with both the New York Jets in 2008 and the Minnesota Vikings in 2009.

While Griffin has yet to address his accomplishment directly, he thanked NFL fans for making his first season in the league special.

"Thank you to all the fans out there for making this NFL experience truly special and driving the excitement surrounding our team," Griffin tweeted recently.

The quarterback has been vocal about God blessing him during his NFL debut since the start of his season. The Baylor University graduate and Christian athlete decided to give God all of the glory for his first big win against the New Orleans Saints earlier this season.

"Couldn't have written the beginning any better," Griffin tweeted after his big win. "To God Be the Glory."

"God's on our side," Griffin said. "There are a lot more goals this team is striving for. I know we can definitely accomplish them."

In a recent interview with Yahoo! News, Griffin spoke about his faith shaping who he is as a football player and a person.

"It shapes everybody's view," Griffin told Yahoo! "To me, you don't directly relate it, but my faith makes me who I am."
