Samsung Galaxy S3 vs. HTC One X

Even though the information on the Samsung Galaxy S3 is strictly based off of speculation, what would happen if the rumors of the device's specifications prove to be true? Would HTC be able to stand up against what is known about the S3 with its recently released One X smartphone.

HTC previously stated that it hopes to establish a flagship line with its new One series that is powered by Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich. And with the One X being the most powerful of the bunch, it is the likely candidate to go up against the new iPhone and the Galaxy S3.

So how does the One X stack up against the rumors of the S3?

Speed

According to the most recent leak of information on the Galaxy S3, the device is expected to include a quad-core 1.4GHz processor. The HTC One X also includes a Tegra 3 quad-core chip.

Both devices should be quite impressive in terms of speed. They should also be relatively close when compared directly with one another. Either way, both handsets should be great for multitasking and navigating through the smartphone quickly.

Display

The HTC One X features a 4.7-inch Super LCD display with 1280x720p resolution. The Galaxy S3 is rumored to have a 4.6-inch screen with the same resolution except it will be a Super AMOLED display.

Both screens should have great HD quality and this aspect will be able to be judged more when first-hand reviews of both devices can be made. But for now it can be expected that both of them will have great screens to rival whatever Apple is working on for its next iPhone.

Software

Both devices should feature Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich, however Samsung has not confirmed anything regarding the device's software. ICS seems like the logical choice for the Galaxy S3 since the S2 has already been updated to the software in many parts of the world.

Price

The HTC One X is priced at $199.99 on AT&T with a new two-year contract. The Galaxy S3 will most likely be available for most of the major U.S. carriers including AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint. It should be somewhere around the same price with a new agreement, but it will most likely be a little more expensive in the range between $250-$300, according to Samsung's pricing for other devices.

Connectivity

The HTC One X is a 4G LTE device. The Samsung Galaxy S3 will most likely be one as well. With both having LTE and quad-core processors, each of these devices is its own force to be reckoned with.

Camera

It is not known what the Galaxy S3 will pack in terms of camera. There have been some mixed reports with some stating it will sport a 12-megapixel rear shooter and others saying it will be 8-megapixels. The HTC One X features an 8-megapixel camera.

Conclusion

The Samsung Galaxy S3 and HTC One X seem evenly matched in most of these categories. The purchase of either phone over the other will come down to preference. If you're a Galaxy loyalist, than you may want to wait for the S3 when it is unveiled on May 3. If you like to experiment then picking up the HTC One X should not disappoint.
