'Saturday Night Live' News: Nov. 1 Episode Recap, Nov. 15 Episode Details

Chris Rock returned to "Saturday Night Live" to host on Nov. 1, and in true edgy Chris Rock style, the comedian cited the Boston Marathon, the 9/11 attacks, and the commercialization of Christmas in America—all in his opening monologue.

"Yesterday was Halloween, tomorrow is the New York City marathon. Yeah, scary, you know, what could go wrong there?" he asked as the audience laughed.

"That was the most frightening, sadistic terroristic attack ever!" said the comedian of the Boston Marathon bombing attack in 2013, which killed three people and wounded 264.

He also referenced the Freedom Tower, which is set to open later this year. "They should change the name from the 'Freedom Tower' to the 'Never Going in There Tower!"

Rock also said that in America, "there are no sacred days, because we commercialize everything."

"Look at what we did to Christmas," he said. "Christmas is Jesus' birthday. I don't know Jesus but from what I've read Jesus is the least materialistic person to ever roam the Earth! No bling on Jesus!"

One of the most notable sketches of the night featured Rock as the strict father of a teenage girl who has her own Youtube Vlog which has three million viewers. Sasheer Zamata, who plays daughter Jannelle, is seen dancing provocatively in front of her webcam for her Vlog, "How to Dance with Jannelle."

"Do I need to send you to Catholic school?" Rock's character says to his misbehaving daughter.

Special musical guest of the night was Prince and 3rdeyegirl, who performed an 8-and-a-half minute medley of "Clouds", "Marz", and "Another Love."

"Saturday Night Live" will be on hiatus on Nov. 8 and will return on Nov. 15 with Woody Harrelson as host and Kendrick Lamar as special musical guest. Harrelson has previously hosted the show in 1989 and 1992, while Lamar appeared with Adam Levine in 2013.

"Saturday Night Live" airs on Saturdays on NBC.
