School Under Fire After Photos of Porn Star Sasha Grey Reading to Kids Appear Online

Parents reportedly had no idea a porn star was leading story time at a California elementary school earlier this month until TMZ leaked photos of Sasha Grey, a former actor in the porn industry, reading aloud to a group of children as a guest from a national elementary school reading program.

Despite pressure from parents, Grey has refused to back out of "Read Across America," vowing that she will "not live in fear of X-rated past."

Grey, who has received awards from the porn industry, tweeted, "Spent the am with "Read Across America" Compton, reading to the sweetest 1st and 3rd students @ Emerson Elementary."

Grey, 23, read Dog Breath by Dav Pilkey to 1st and 3rd grade children as a celebrity guest with the "Read Across America" program at Emerson Elementary School in Compton, Calif.

The school has received complaints from parents for allowing Grey to take part in the program.

A public relations representative denied the incident, telling TMZ, "We have celebrities who read to our students each year. The actress you indicated was not present."

In a statement, Grey said, "I committed to this program with the understanding that people would have their own opinions about what I have done, who I am and what I represent."

She added, "I am an actor. I am an artist. I am a daughter. I am a sister. I am a partner. I have a past that some people may not agree with, but it does not define who I am."

Grey started her career in pornography in 2006. In addition to acting in adult films, she models and has been featured in music videos. Grey has since switched to mainstream movies. The actress had a supporting role in HBO's season 7 of "Entourage."

"I believe in the future of our children, and I will remain an active supporter and participant in education-focused initiatives," the actress said.

According to its website, the purpose of "Read Across America" is to motivate children to read and help create lifelong successful readers.
