Starbucks 'Happy Hour' Today: Half Off All Frappucinos

Starbucks has announced its Happy Hour starting Friday where the coffee franchise will celebrate spring with half-priced frappucinos.

Customers can enjoy any frappucino drink at half its regular price from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. during a special that runs through May 12.

The happy hour special allows Starbucks aficionados to sample the many varieties of frappucino flavors, such as the Caramel Ribbon Crunch Frappucino or the Mocha Cookie Crumble.

Today, customers can also create their own version of the frappucino with options that include adding extra coffee or whipped cream, using non-fat or soy milk, or using a drizzle of chocolate or flavoring.

Other flavors of the popular blended drink include the Caramel Frappucino, Mocha, Coffee, Java Chip, Caffe Vanilla, White Chocolate Mocha, Mocha Light, Caramel Light, Strawberries & Crème, and Vanilla Bean Crème, among others.

On Twitter, coffee lovers are posting about the happy hour offer on Friday.

"Chilly temps won't keep me from ½ price #frappucinohappyhour at Starbucks today… love," wrote Vicki.

Taylor added, "Happy hour for frapps at Starbucks from 3-5, best believe I'll be there!"

Meanwhile, it is interesting to note that the Strawberry Frappucino at Starbucks offers a red-colored fruit blend that uses "natural" dye.

The country-style inspired drink contains cochineal extract, which consists of thousands of crushed insects that give the beverage its rosy-pink hue.

While using bug extract may alarm some, the natural dye has been deemed safe by the FDA and has been used in hundreds of food products such as jams, meat and marinades, among many others.

Furthermore, the coloring agent is a means for Starbucks to reduce the use of artificial ingredients.

"As Starbucks, we strive to carry products that meet a variety of dietary lifestyles and needs," said the Seattle coffee company in a statement. "We also have the goal to minimize artificial ingredients in our products."

Starbucks boasts the highest quality coffee and has coffeehouses in 55 countries, including over 11,000 in the U.S. alone. Along with their drip brew coffee and espresso drinks, the company also offers salads, sandwiches, and snacks, as well as many other items.
