Steve Jobs Dead: Memorial Service Held With Clinton, Gore and Gates
A private memorial service was held for Apple co-founder Steve Jobs at Stanford University on Sunday. Many top figures attended the honorary service, including former U.S. President Bill Clinton, former vice-president Al Gore, Microsoft chairman Bill Gates, Google CEO Larry Page, U2 frontman Bono, and News Corp CEO Rupert Murdoch.
Actor Tim Allen, voice of Buzz Lightyear from Pixar’s animated Toy Story movies, also paid respect to the late former Apple CEO, who passed away Oct 5.
Oracle CEO Larry Ellison, Dell chief Michael Dell, and Adobe co-founders John Warnock and Chuck Geschke were seen as well.
Also in attendance was Jay Y. Lee, the son of Samsung chairman Lee Kun-Hee. Though Samsung is Apple’s biggest rival, Lee reportedly received a personal invitation from Apple CEO Tim Cook.
Stanford University’s campus was closed to the public for eight hours. Sunday was declared as “Steve Jobs Day” in California by Governor Jerry Brown.
He said in a statement: “To call him influential would be an understatement.... His innovations transformed an industry, and the products he conceived and shepherded to market have changed the way the entire world communicates."
The event was organized by Job’s widow Laurene Powell-Jobs.
