Steve Smith Signs With Eagles, Stuns Giants

Pro Bowl receiver Steve Smith has stunned the Giants after signing a one-year deal Wednesday with rivals the Philadelphia Eagles just two days after visiting with Giants’ staff.

The contract was made just hours after coach Tom Coughlin reported how his players were excited to see Smith back in the building. In a Wednesday evening conference call Smith said, “This is a business, man, and it's tough. The Eagles, they really pushed hard.”

Smith had to suffer through micro-fracture surgery in December, and the Giants had revealed their keenness to maintain Smith’s services. General manager Jerry Reese had extended a contract offer to the receiver when free agency opened just a few weeks back.

However, it appears as though the Eagles came in with a more lucrative offer.

The Eagles believe that Smith will be back by the end of September.

To many the Philadelphia Eagles have been the clear winners of the 2011 NFL free-agency period, having added six Pro Bowl players in the off season.

Philadelphia Eagles fans will now be looking forward to the coming season with great anticipation. If the team performs as good as it looks on paper then it could easily fulfill fans’ dreams and make it to Indianapolis for Super Bowl XLVI.
