Sweflix Update: Police Raid Streaming Portal in Bid to Catch Operators
Police have raided Sweflix on Tuesday in a bid to nail its operators after Disney and Nordic Film filed a report against the streaming portal.
On Tuesday, police raided one house in Uppsala and another in southern Sweden in a bid to catch the operators of television and movie portal Sweflix. They used the information they received to locate the two homes suspected of having connections with Sweflix, according to an IDG report cited by Yibada.
"We have over time carried out surveillance against those who may be behind Sweflix. Then we received information that led to the crackdown," Yibada quotes Prosecutor Mats Ljungqvist's statement regarding the raid.
Earlier reports said three individuals have been interrogated but one was released. The other two are still in police custody, the report adds.
"The two that have been detained know each other and one of them has a family relationship with the third," Ljungqvist said.
Ljungqvist confirmed that they confiscated items from the two houses after carrying out the raid, but he did not provide further details, TorrentFreak reports.
Sweden has been known as the leader in the file-sharing industry for many years. However, authorities in the United States have began paying attention to the activities of The Pirate Bay and other file-sharing sites based in Sweden because they felt the latter has not been doing enough to fight piracy.
Recently, an arrest or a lawsuit connected with the file-sharing industry is being reported almost every month. In Sweden, raids are usually carried out after complaints from the entertainment industry are filed, the report explains.
While the Sweflix raid comes as another blow to the file-sharing industry, the site remains accessible for Sweden-based users. The Pirate Bay, on the other hand, is also still accessible in Sweden after a district court ordered the local Internet Service Provider not to block the file-sharing site.
