'The Affair' Season 2 Premiere Date and Spoilers: Cole and Helen's Shifting Perspectives (VIDEO)

Showtime's "The Affair" is due to air its Season 2 premiere early next month and already, news is emerging over the extramarital dalliance series.

Season 2 of "The Affair" will be exploring the complications surrounding the truth and the shifting perspectives of its supporting cast when it returns to Showtime this October.

Taking up where the series' critically acclaimed first season left off with Noah (Dominic West) and Alison's (Ruth Wilson) affair seen through their own eyes, Season 2 is due to take a look at the effect of the main leads' indiscretions through the perspective of Alison's spouse, Cole (Joshua Jackson), and Noah's disillusioned wife, Helen (Maura Tierny).

While Season 1 dealt with Noah and Alison's ricocheting emotions as they dealt with their increasing attraction and their eventual surrender towards each other, the upcoming Season 2 will add to the structure to give audiences the POV of each affected individual, opening up the story and widening the plot.

With the new points of view expressed in Season 2, audiences will be able to see the real story unfold, and perhaps even doubt the truth presented in the previous season. Those rooting for certain characters may end up cheering others by the time Season 2's storyline opens up.

When Season 2 premieres, Cole will enter the picture an empty shell who feels he has failed everyone and everything he holds dear to him, and the season will see him try to put back the pieces of his life together. However, there isn't any guarantee of a fairy tale ending for him, or any of the other characters in the series.

"The Affair," which won the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Drama series at the 72nd Golden Globe Awards in January, as well as a Best Actress in a Television Series award for Ruth Wilson, will air its premiere telecast for Season 2 on October 4, Sunday at 9/10pm CT.
