The Beautiful Friendship Between a Preschooler and an 89-Yr-Old WWII Vet Will Leave You in Tears

For nearly 10 years, the Rychner family lived next to Erling Kindem, a WWII veteran, and his wife in their Farmington, Minn. neighborhood. The two households had little contact with each other until little Emmett Rychner, then 2, wandered over to ask about Kindem's tomato garden. It was the beginning of a beautiful friendship where a day rarely goes by without the two spending time together.
