'The Fosters' Season 4B Spoilers, Air Date and Updates: EP Hints Adams-Foster Family May Say Goodbye After 4th Installment – Freeform to Cancel the Show?

Freeform's "The Fosters" will possibly end after the 10 episodes of Season 4B. Co-creator and executive producer Bradley Bredeweg disclosed that the future of the hit LGBT-themed drama remains uncertain as there is no official word of renewal yet.

No Season 5?

Bredeweg made the revelation after a fan asked him on Twitter if the hit Freeform family drama has been already renewed for its fifth season. The EP responded by saying that their focus right now is to give avid viewers the "very best Season 4B possible."

Bredeweg mentioned on his tweet that the production for the remaining episodes of the fourth season is off to a beautiful start. He implied that the future of the show would still depend on Freeform as it has not yet given greenlight for renewal.

Another follower also asked Bredeweg if there is anything avid fans can do for the hit television series to get renewed. The EP promptly answered, "Keep loving and supporting just as you've always done."

Decline in Ratings

If ratings are an indication, Freeform will most likely ax the show. The unconventional family drama registered a continuous decline in ratings as the season progresses.

The first 10 episodes of the "The Fosters" Season 4 posted a sizable dip in ratings compared to its past seasons. According to TV Series Finale, the first half of the fourth installment attracted an average of 0.891 million viewers, a lower figure compared to the third season's average of one million viewers.

The ratings of the midseason finale also dropped. From the Season 3's average of 1.246 million viewers, the figures went down to 0.989 million in the summer finale of Season4. The same trend occurred to the pilot episode, with the fourth season going down to 0.907 million viewers from the third season's 1.261 million.

It is also evident that the Freeform family drama keeps on losing a significant amount of viewers since its second season. The pilot season registered an average of 1.68 million viewers while the sophomore season attracted 1.39 million.

Good Reviews

While ratings continue to drop, the Freeform family drama remains critically acclaimed. Premiere Date predicted that Season 5 is almost a sure thing for the series because of its massive impact to teenagers and adults. The site added that the family drama continues to receive favorable reviews for its unconventional storyline.

The remaining 10 episodes of "The Fosters" Season 4 will return to Freeform early next year. The network has not yet announced the official date.
