'The Fosters' Season 5 Spoilers: Mariana Handles Nick in a 'Badass' Way

Mariana (Cierra Ramirez) is more than ready to handle her crazy ex-boyfriend in the second half of the current season of "The Fosters."

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Bradley Bredeweg talked about the possibility that Nick (Louis Hunter) was lying to Mariana when he said he had valuable information about the Anchor Beach Charter School.

In the last finale, it was revealed that he was the one who sent her the text message. Fans of the series can remember Nick as the ex-lover who went ballistic when Mariana broke up with him. While it is worrying that she may still be traumatized by what he did to her, the EP said Mariana is going to be mature enough to handle Nick.

"He definitely has information that Mariana is going to be able to use. And I'll also tell you that Mariana is maturing and she will handle Nick in a really respectable and badass sort of way," Bredeweg said.

Meanwhile, spoilers indicate that Mariana will be involved in a new romance in season 5B. Speculations are rife that she will begin dating Mat (Jordan Rodrigues) again. The two shared a sweet dance during the prom and their fans are loving the reunion. Executive producer Joanna Johnson has teased that while they are definitely arranging a new relationship for Mariana, they could not assure that it would be with Mat.

"Mariana's gone, I think we figured out, 18 episodes without a boyfriend. So sometimes when it rains, it pours. Mariana's going to have her options open this season," the EP revealed.

Elsewhere, Mariana's brother, Brandon (David Lambert) will face new struggles in his relationship with Grace (Meg DeLacy). Grace's mother wanted them to leave town and get her the medical treatment she needs for her cancer. The young couple is understandably upset about it since this will mean they will not be seeing each other anytime soon.

"The Fosters" season 5B is expected to air next year.
