Meanwhile, Damon, played by Ian Somerhalder and Bonnie, played by Kat Graham, will be pursuing a mission with Alaric to find ways they can bring Lily down, along with the Heretics.

But before all that takes place, the season is expected to premiere with Elena Gilbert, played by Nina Dobrev, still a major part of the story. Dobrev recently left the series, which had the writers create a way to set the departure of her character righteously. The previous season saw Elena Gilbert put in a need sleep, which is expected to last years.

However, her body is expected to still be in danger. With that, Damon and Stefan will try their best to protect it. According to TV Insider, Wesley recently shared details concerning the matter. He said, "Her body's in danger in the first few episodes, and Damon is doing everything he can to make sure it stays safe if and when she wakes up. We all had imagined this complete reboot where Elena was gone, but she's talked about so much!"

The premiere of the season will be titled "Day One of Twenty Two Thousand." It will air on Oct. 8 at 8 p.m. ET.
