This week in Christian history: Pope bashes French Revolution; ‘Heaven is for Real’ movie debuts
“Heaven Is for Real” movie released to theaters – April 16, 2014

This week marks the anniversary of when the Christian film “Heaven Is for Real,” reportedly based on true events, was released nationwide in the United States.
Based on a best-selling book of the same name by Todd Burpo, the story centers on the alleged near-death experience of his son, Colton Burpo, when he was 3 years old.
Directed by Randall Wallace, with T.D. Jakes as one of the producers, the PG-rated movie starred Greg Kinnear as Todd Burpo, Kelly Reilly as his wife, Sonja Burpo, and Connor Corum as Colton Burpo.
In an interview with The Christian Post the year before the film debuted, Todd Burpo said the film was “going to cause everyone, in the right way, to ask ‘what do I believe?’ and ‘should I believe?’”
“This is a movie that is not directed to Christians, it’s directed to the world,” he said at the time. “Everyone’s going to want to bring their friend and have a sit-down conversation about it afterward.”
