Last July, CP reported that a man who identifies as a woman was transferred to a different prison after he impregnated two female inmates at a women’s only prison. The inmate, Demi Minor, is serving a 30-year sentence for manslaughter. He was transferred to the Garden State Youth Correctional Facility following the incident.
The inmate’s transfer came three months after NJ.com reported that two women at Edna Mahan Correctional Facility, a female prison, became pregnant after "consensual sexual relationships with another incarcerated person."

According to a now-deleted blog post on the Justice 4 Demi blog, Minor claimed that his transfer out of the women’s prisons caused him "psychological damage."
New Jersey enacted a law in June 2021 requiring prisons to house inmates based on their self-declared gender identity as a result of a lawsuit filed by a trans-identifying male prisoner. The prisoner at the center of the case was reportedly housed in a male prison for more than 18 months, and he was purportedly “misgendered” by the correctional officers, in addition to being denied female commissary items.
The male inmate was transferred to the Edna Mahan Correctional Facility for Women after the American Civil Liberties Union of New Jersey filed the complaint in August 2019.
