TobyMac's Christmas Hit Featured as iTunes' Single of the Week

TobyMac's "Christmas This Year" was selected as iTunes' single of the week.

That means the Christian music artist's holiday hit is available for free this week. Now fans and everyone else in the United States will be able to download the song until December 20.

"Christmas This Year" has been No. 1 this week at AC Monitored, with over 90 stations playing the single.

TobyMac's personal website encourages fans to get the song and thanks people who already purchased it.

"We're excited to announce that iTunes has selected 'Christmas This Year' as this week's Holiday Single of the Week! That means that you can download it FREE at iTunes all week!"

The cheery song features Leigh Nash from the popular band Sixpence None The Richer, named after a line from the popular author C.S. Lewis. They are best known for their Dove Award winning song "Kiss Me."

This is TobyMac's first Christmas song in eight years.

He shared, "I wanted to write a song that captured that pure delight without missing the spirit of the season ... when love came down to let us live."

TobyMac's Grammy nominated album Tonight is also featured as one of iTunes' "Best of 2010" releases.

The Christian rap artist first gained fame with the band DC Talk, which he and Michael Tait formed more than 20 years ago in Lynchburg, Va. After the group disbanded in 2000, he went solo and has since won numerous Dove Awards and his first Grammy as a solo artist last year. Last year, he also topped 2 million in total albums sold during his solo career.

TobyMac will be kicking off his national Winter Wonder Slam tour in January. He will be accompanied by singer/songwriter Brandon Heath and Gotee Records' House of Heroes.
