Troy Davis Story: Tweeters Compare Case to Casey Anthony

As the hours draw closer to the execution of Troy Davis, thousands of people have taken to Twitter to debate the case, and many are comparing the Troy Davis story with Casey Anthony’s recent controversial trial.

Many have expressed concern that Anthony, acquitted of murdering her 2-year-old daughter Caylee, was able to walk free while Davis has been confirmed to be put to death Wednesday evening.

The controversy surrounding Davis’ case comes after many of the nine witnesses that originally claimed he killed an off duty police officer over ten years ago, changed their stories following his conviction. Out of the nine, seven have since changed their statements.

However, the controversy surrounding the evidence has not stopped the scheduled lethal injection set for 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

Many Twitter users have said they are confused as to why Casey Anthony went free while Davis is facing the death penalty.

“Death penalty though,” the user questioned. “For something you have no proof over besides what people said? Casey Anthony is not guilty despite all the proof!”

Another user’s thoughts seemed to follow suit.

“If Casey Anthony killed her daughter and got off why does Troy Davis have to die for something that is doubted,” the user questioned.

One person tweeted that the decision to put Davis to death reflected the judicial system.

“Between Troy Davis and Casey Anthony, our judicial system is probe the biggest joke in the world,” the individual tweeted.

Some attributed the inconsistency in the trial results to Davis’ race.

“If Troy Davis was a Caucasian woman named Casey Anthony, he'd be out shopping right now instead of awaiting a brutal execution,” a Tweeter stated.

However, some in the Twitter community did not think it was fair to compare both cases.

“Clearly the majority of all have no clue how the justice system works for comparing Troy Davis to Casey Anthony,” an individual stated on the social media platform.

According to People magazine, Anthony has had trouble adjusting to threats on her life and a hard time making friends.

"She would love to go out to meet friends and do public things," a source told People. "But she knows she can’t."
