In a series of X posts on Tuesday, Students for Life of America and Students for Life Action President Kristan Hawkins called on the Trump administration to enforce the Comstock Act if it is insistent on “following the law.”

The Comstock Act of 1873 banned the mailing and interstate transportation of "obscene, lewd, or lascivious" materials, including abortifacients. Hawkins noted that the Comstock Act is already on the books, and it could stop the shipment of abortion drugs through the mail.

“You can’t pick and choose which laws to follow,” Hawkins declared. “The pro-life movement wants to work with President Trump — but the next step should be DEBARRING Planned Parenthood, not funding them.”

“Debarment means banning organizations from receiving taxpayer dollars due to wrongdoing. That’s exactly what Planned Parenthood deserves, and there is proof of.”

In addition to enforcing the Comstock Act, the SFLA president called on the Trump administration to debar Planned Parenthood from all funding “to stop this predatory industry.” She also called on the administration to advance legislation that will save the lives of preborn Americans.

“Protecting Life should never be optional,” Hawkins stated.
