6. Trump admin awards $500M to World Vision, disaster assistance in Missouri, West Virginia
On Thursday, the Evangelical charity organization World Vision said that it had received a $250 million grant from the U.S. Department of State as part of the Faith and Community Initiative.
The Faith and Community Initiative is a five-year health effort that aims to reach 22 million people annually in 16 African countries and the Philippines. The initiative will provide access to integrated, lifesaving care that includes services for HIV, tuberculosis, malaria, maternal and child health and nutrition.
In a separate statement Thursday, World Vision announced that it had received $238 million from the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Disaster Relief and Humanitarian Response to provide humanitarian assistance following disasters in more than 30 countries across Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
Disaster relief in the U.S. was a priority of Trump earlier in the week. In a Truth Social post Monday, the president announced that he was approving $4.5 million for disaster relief to West Virginia following “severe storms, winds, tornadoes, flooding, landslides, and mudslides they experienced, and are still recovering from.”
In another Truth Social post Monday, Trump announced that he was approving $24.5 million for disaster relief to Missouri following “severe storms, winds, tornadoes, and flooding.” In an X post Wednesday, Washington Gov. Bob Ferguson, D-Wash., thanked Trump for granting his request for “emergency assistance for six counties and three tribal nations in Eastern Washington” amid “devastating fires.”
