UFC Fight News 2016: Exciting Card for UFC 197 to Feature Conor McGregor and Holly Holm

The Ultimate Fighting Championship looks forward to 2016 with more blockbuster fights on the way. Perhaps the biggest of them all is the upcoming UFC 197 pay-per-view event that is slated to take place on March 5.

Several news outlets reported that Dana White will be officially announcing the matchup between Conor McGregor against Rafael dos Anjos for the UFC Lightweight Championship. The fight is reportedly going to be the main event for UFC 197 in Las Vegas.

This new development is a big blow to Frankie Edgar, who was promised by White the opportunity to challenge McGregor for his 145-pound title he recently won against Jose Aldo. Edgar, for his part, earned the right to contend for the title after knocking out Chad Mendez at the TUF 22 Finale. Therefore, the Irish fighter will instead campaign in another weight class in the hope of grabbing a second title, but it is really confusing as to what happens to his existing title in the featherweight division.

Holm Fights Tate

In another surprising development, UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion Holly Holm will be defending her title against an opponent other than Ronda Rousey. After the 34-year-old veteran fighter shockingly defeated Rousey, White addressed mixed martial arts and UFC fans saying that Rousey will be given an immediate rematch. But it looks like Holm's camp won the debate since they didn't want their fighter to wait for Rousey to heal from her injuries and do the rematch.

The champion will be facing a formidable opponent in the name of Miesha Tate, a former title challenger herself. The Holm-Tate matchup is reportedly going to be the co-main event of the fight card.

UFC 197 will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday, March 5. It still isn't sure, though, if it'll be staged in the MGM Grand Garden Arena or in the Mandalay Bay Events Center.
